Your Concierge Physician Keeps You Updated on the Corona Virus

March 24, 2020
With the virus, in the news everyday,  I am keeping in touch with my patients through updates in newsletters. I continue to keep myself informed daily and I will share this information with you as they develop. My patients’ health is my primary concern.
Please remember these important facts for staying healthy that we discussed:
Disinfect your environment and wash your hands often. The recommendation for handwashing is to take 20 seconds. Do not touch your face.
Practice social isolation including avoid others whenever possible. Put off things that are non-emergencies or urgent.
Keep in mind that many of the markets have set aside hours for seniors who are at more risk in order to decrease crowds at those times.
Internationally there has been more use of the drugs Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine with documentation of significant side effects including some deaths. Please keep in mind that there is not strong research evidence for their use. I will keep you updated as I learn more.
Early this week the FTD rapidly granted orphan drug status to the antiviral drug Remdesivir which shows promise for treating Coronavirus. The particulars of its use are in development at present. It is an IV medication.
Vaccines are the best hope but they will require a significant time to develop. Therefore prevention is the best tactic.
Please keep in contact with those you love by phone, email, text, face time, skype, or letters. We all appreciate hearing a familiar voice. Go for a walk by your self.
If I can be of help please contact me.
We will all get through this together.
